Photographing Sarah and Colin’s micro wedding 7,000 feet above sea level was one of the coolest things of my career. . . it still feels unreal. I’ve never seen such a unique and magical wedding venue as Silcox Hut, a little snow hut up the mountain from Timberline Lodge—and it’s now one of my favorite spots on Mt. Hood. Still pinching myself that I got to be there and photograph this unforgettable day in the middle of such a dreamy winter wonderland, and I can’t wait to share it with y’all.

I guess this technically would have been a spring wedding, being in March. . . but honestly, all the snow just gives all the cozy, winter, snuggle-up-by-the-fire vibes, am I right? Mt. Hood is never a bad place to be at any time of year, whether it’s the middle of the summer and the wildflowers are blooming, or it’s the depths of winter with no blue sky in sight. Sarah + Colin’s wedding day was the latter—a dark and dreary day with snow blowing everywhere we looked. And honestly, it couldn’t have been more perfect; the wintry atmosphere just felt right with every moment we spent inside of the warm + cozy Timberline Lodge, and then snuggled up inside of Silcox Hut.

Timberline is one of the most iconic destinations in the Pacific Northwest, sitting on the south side of Mount Hood. Sarah, Colin and their wedding party members spent the morning getting halfway-ready for the wedding ceremony inside of their rooms—and by halfway, I mean only hair and makeup for Sarah and her bridesmaids, while Colin was ready to go in his full suit. They waited to put on their gowns + final touches until we were up at Silcox, dressed in comfy leggings and jackets for the time being. We knew we’d have to go out in the windy, snowy weather again to get in the snow cats (yes, snow cats!) that would transport us up there, and I swear riding these snow cats was one of the most fun parts of the day!

Once we rode up to Silcox Hut, we stepped out into the blustery weather + were met with the coziest celebration tucked into the snowy mountain. I knew the plan in advance, of course, but it turned out to be even more magical than I imagined. Sarah and Colin shared their first look against the rocky walls of the hut, just before being greeted by their sweet pup who had arrived from the snow cats.
And from then on, it felt like we were living in a storybook for the rest of the day: running in and out of the cabin to take quick pictures in the snow, watching S + C say their vows under the whimsical glow of string lights that lit up the hut, and enjoying an evening bursting with love. . . what a dream come true for everyone involved. No stone was left unturned when planning this celebration, and I could tell that the bride and groom created the most amazing atmosphere for community, connection, and lifelong memories with their favorite people.

Y’all, Silcox Hut is easily one of the absolute coolest, most unique, and most enchanting wedding venues I have ever shot at. Without a doubt. It literally sits at 7,000 feet above sea level on a gorgeous mountain, accessible at ANY time of year. You could get married here in the middle of a winter snowstorm like Sarah + Colin did, or on a sunny summer day with no clouds in sight (though it’ll still be chilly!). Many groups will book the hut to serve as their basecamp while they’re out hiking and adventuring, which would be such a fun way to set up your adventure elopement!
Not only can this charming hut serve as a venue for both your ceremony and reception, you can also stay IN the hut overnight. In fact, it can fit up to 24 people inside! Insane, right? It’s wayyy more spacious than you’d think. Overnight rates depend on the year, season, and number of guests you’re bringing along.
I’m a huge believer that your elopement should be not just a day full of pretty decor and aesthetic photos, but a full, unforgettable experience for you + your guests. And if you decide to tie the knot at Silcox Hut, you will for SURE be giving your guests a once-in-a-lifetime experience, and the chance to create so many cherished memories together.
The staff at Timberline Lodge is also freaking incredible, and offers so much support throughout the whole process. When you book Silcox Hut for your elopement or micro wedding, they include everything you could possibly need:
Winter weekends at Silcox Hut often book up at least a year in advance, so if you’re aiming for a winter date, definitely reach out as far in advance as you can to make sure you can snag it! You can check availability and get more info by emailing Timberline Lodge here.

Every part of this day felt like a fairytale—from the kindest couple to their incredible guests. Truly unforgettable.
