Days like these are what make me take a step back and just be in plain AWE at my job. Seriously cannot believe I get to spend my days adventuring around incredible locations with the most amazing people like Kelly + Kaylah. This foggy fall elopement at Artist Point with K + K was the most magical morning, and I can’t wait to share a few of my favorite images + stories from the day with y’all <3
I know we all love the PNW mountains in the spring and summer, when the trees and grass are lush, the wildflowers are blooming, and the skies are blue, but the mountains in autumn are on a whole other level. Something I love about the unpredictability of the mountains in autumn is that you never know what the weather will be like. You might show up to sunshine and warm temps that could go away in an hour, you might arrive at your location in the fog & rain and have it clear up within minutes and have the most BEAUTIFUL views ever. But the one thing that never changes is the fact that you really have to be ready for anything!
With K + K, there were so many points in the day where we could see the mountain, and within 15 seconds, it was fogged over and had disappeared again. It almost made it into a game to see how long she would stick around for us 🙂 Luckily these two had the best attitudes about it and were totally down to embrace the dreamy fog and clouds, playing hide & seek with the mountain we wanted so badly to peek out for us.
If you couldn’t tell already, I freaking love fall elopements, y’all; there’s just something so dang unreal about the changing landscapes here in the PNW. Whether you elope in the middle of the foggy mountains or deep in the rainforest, whether you get rain or shine, you can always find beauty in it. We started this Artist Point elopement with K + K writing their vows at 7am at the top of the mountains, and it actually SNOWED on us. It was more like frozen flurries, if you know what I mean, but it was cooold up in those clouds. I always encourage my couples to spend time writing their vows the morning of their elopement, instead of fully writing them beforehand – writing them when you’re really in the moment and feeling all the emotions of the day can make them so much more special. Or if you do want to write part of your vows the week of your elopement, you can re-write them in your vow books day-of for cute photos 🙂
P.s. who needs a table and chairs to write your vows when you have rocks to sit on like K + K? Love how they just cozied up in their blankets and sweaters and went with the flow of the weather right from the get go.
K + K rock-paper-scissored to see who should read their vows first, then took the time to share their love for each other. This was also the only time the mountain stayed visible for more than 30 seconds, so it felt pretty meant to be! Watching them get emotional and read such sweet words in front of the most majestic landscape was a pretty incredible moment to be a part of.
From there, we just adventured around and watched for breaks in the fog to take advantage of! We enjoyed the surprise appearances of the mountain, the quickly-moving fog, the random snow flurries, the gorgeous soft sunlight peeking through the clouds, and honestly just having the mountain to ourselves all morning. Artist Point and the Austin Pass Picnic Area are such epic elopement locations at Mount Baker – 10/10 recommend!
Can we also take a minute to appreciate K + K’s elopement outfits?! Kelly wore a gorgeous strapless dress with puffed detachable sleeves and a fire leg slit that allowed it to blow so beautifully in the wind. I loved her simple low bun & elegant gold jewelry that went perfectly with Kay’s beige-filled outfit! She picked an amazing pair of flared tan trousers, a simple white tee with layers of necklaces lining the top, and a cozy beige cardigan. The most stylish couple for this simple yet so so gorgeous fall elopement.
Photographing days like these are so special, because even though the weather was chaotic, freezing + unpredictable, K + K were so positive, kind + down for the adventure! We embraced the chaos, and truly immersed ourselves into this experience. So grateful for every minute of it, and for all my couples who are always down for a real adventure.
