About the amazing couple

A little backstory before we dive into more about this anniversary shoot. Shayne is deaf, and Rubin is not – he’s actually a signing translator! These two are truly such an amazing match, balancing each other out, challenging each other, and loving each other so well. Their best buds Lava + Lace add so much joy to their lives. Fun fact: their Dalmatian, Lava, is also deaf and serves as Shayne’s wonderful companion dog!! Shooting their little fam was such a big honor.

The incredible anniversary session in Sisters, Oregon

I’m going to be totally real with y’all. Going into this shoot I had to get creative with finding a special way to communicate and connect Rubin + Shayne’s vision for the session. Rubin + I could communicate with words, but since I don’t know how to sign, I got the chance to connect with Shayne in a different way. I’ve already met these two wonderful men when I photographed their proposal at Mount Rainier years prior, but it had been so long and I wanted this to be an unforgettable memory for them both. ⁣

We literally ran into each other’s arms for hugs when they arrived and the whole shoot went so seamlessly. We were able to communicate with words, hands, and motions exactly what our vision was, and what we wanted to capture, but also opening the space for them to just be themselves. Everything fell into place to create magic for their anniversary photoshoot. ⁣

It was so peaceful, so creative + truly that unforgettable experience I’ve dreamed for. It’s amazing to be able to connect with more emotion than words. Shayne + Rubin completely let me in. They were so vulnerable together + seriously lit a fire into my passion for photography all over again! ⁣Plus, anniversary photos are such a wonderful way to spend intentional time with your partner and celebrate how far you’ve come.

I also had the honor of shooting their proposal wayyy back in the summer of 2019. Which was one of THE most wonderful sessions ever, too. We ventured into the foggy Mount Rainier wilderness together with Lava + Lace and enjoyed some slow moments dancing through the vibrant green fields. Then I got to be there to capture the moment they got engaged, and it was the sweetest y’all! The scenery was stunning and seriously felt like we were in Iceland. We were surrounded by trees + hills + bright greenery, enjoying one of the most important moments of their lives in an incredible place. It’s so special getting to photograph proposals for such amazing humans. Especially when I get to photograph them together again years later!
